Mounting

The sink every kitchen has to have.

A hand wash basin within reach of the prep area is a licensing condition, not a nicety. This one is the cheap, tidy way to meet it.

The basin, the strainer and the drain are stainless, so it lives with wet hands and hot water all day without marking. The tap swivels through a full turn on a ceramic valve, which is the part that stops dripping at three in the afternoon when everything else in the kitchen is dripping. Three sides carry a high splashback, so the wall behind it and the bench beside it stay dry.

It fixes to the wall over a 432 mm width, which is narrow enough to fit beside a doorway or at the end of a bench. If a wall is not an option it sets into a bench instead, using the same basin and tap.

Questions

Does it meet the hand wash basin requirement?

It is a dedicated stainless basin with a tap, a splashback on three sides and a proper waste, and the maker states NSF certification. Your council may also want it plumbed to hot water at a set temperature and fitted with a soap and towel dispenser beside it, so check the local requirement before the inspection.

Do I need a plumber?

To fix the basin, no. To connect the water supply and the drain, yes in most states, since it is a fixed water connection. Have the basin mounted before the plumber arrives and the visit is short.

What is the water barrier version?

The maker lists a version with a water barrier structure, which is designed to keep water in the basin. It is not currently available; ask us if you need it.

Can I use it as a small prep sink?

For rinsing a bunch of herbs, yes. It is a hand basin though, and in a licensed kitchen a hand basin is meant for hands only. For washing produce and utensils, the free-standing prep sink is the right tool.

Does it come with a tap?

Yes. A swivel tap on a ceramic valve core is included, along with the basket strainer and drain assembly.
